Mists Talents

Mists of Pandaria has a brand new talent system which is supposed to allow for greater customization and fewer “cookie cutter” builds.  As such I’ve mostly offered some explanations of what each talent does, what sort of player might want to use that talent, and in what type of situation that talent might be most helpful.  The new talent system is all about experimentation and personal playstyle.  If a talent looks like fun, try it!

Tier 1 (Level 15)
Talent Name Description Possible Uses
Feline Swiftness Increases your movement speed by 15%. A flat movement speed increase is helpful in just about any situation – PvE, PvP, or even just to help you get around faster while you’re questing. Increased movement speed helps you get out of the bad stuff faster.
Displacer Beast Teleports the Druid up to 20 yards forward and activates Cat Form and Prowl. While this talent may not have many practical uses for PvE, it could be helpful for PvP Resto druids when they need to get out of a fight quickly.
Wild Charge This spell functions differently depending upon our form. For Resto druids, who will generally be in caster form, it will cause us to fly to an ally’s position. Wild Charge may be of the most use to players who have a hard time getting out of fire and void zones quickly. While Feline Swiftness helps us get out of the way faster, Wild Charge might be better if you don’t always realize you’re standing in something bad until the very last moment.
Tier 2 (Level 30)
Talent Name Description Possible Uses
Nature’s Swiftness When activated, your next Cyclone, Entangling Roots, Healing Touch, Hibernate, Nourish, Rebirth, or Regrowth becomes instant, free, and castable in all forms.  The healing and duration of the spell is increased by 50%. This talent is unchanged from the Cataclysm talent in the Resto tree.  It will continue to be a great cooldown for moments when we need to save someone RIGHT NOW.
Renewal Instantly heals the Druid for 30% of maximum health.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. Are you a healer who often forgets to heal yourself?  If so, this might be your answer.
Cenarion Ward Protects a friendly target, causing any damage taken to heal the target every 2 sec for 6 sec.  Gaining the healing effect consumes the Cenarion Ward.  Useable in all shapeshift forms.  Lasts 30 sec. Cenarion Ward is a fun additional buff that we can place on someone who we know is going to be taking regular damage (the tank), or on any player who is running low on health.  Probably best for Resto druids who spend a lot of time tank healing.
Tier 3 (Level 45)

Faerie Swarm Grants an improved version of Faerie Fire that also reduces the target’s movement speed by 50% for 15 sec.This talent replaces Faerie Fire. Faerie Swarm would be only situationally useful for PvE Resto druids as the vast majority of dungeon and raid bosses are usually immune to this sort of effect.  In PvP situations it might give us a chance to put some distance between ourselves and whoever’s chasing us.
Mass Entanglement Roots your target in place for 20 sec and spreads to additional nearby enemies.  Affects 5 total targets.  Damage caused may interrupt the effect.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. In add fights when a group of adds spawns close together and needs to stay grouped up so that DPS can kill them quickly, Mass Entanglement could be quite helpful.  This is also the sort of thing that might annoy a tank who is trying to pick up adds, so be sure to communicate with your tank and see if they want you to use this.
Typhoon Summons a violent Typhoon that strikes targets in front of the caster within 30 yards, knocking them back and dazing them for 6 sec.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. This previously moonkin-only ability is now accessible by all specs.  It’s great for getting adds away from you, or for keeping adds away from something you don’t want them to reach.  Again, consult with your tank if you’re going to use this.
Tier 4 (Level 60)
Talent Name Description Possible Uses
Soul of the Forest You gain 50% haste for your next spell when you cast Swiftmend. Soul of the Forest will be an excellent passive healing boost, as we generally use Swiftmend on cooldown and the haste will either make a direct healing spell faster or increase the number of ticks if we cast a HoT.
Incarnation Tree of Life Form that increases healing done by 15%, increases armor by 120%, and enhances Lifebloom, Wild Growth, Regrowth, and Entangling Roots spellcasts. Resto druids get our Tree of Life cooldown if we choose Incarnation.  ToL is an extremely powerful throughput CD with a lot of uses (see some suggestions for when to use it here).  Great if you want a lot of control over how and when you need burst healing.
Force of Nature Summons 3 treants to assist in the Druid’s current combat role for 15 sec.  Treant capabilities vary by specialization.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. Having 3 treants to help you heal certainly wins for the fun factor.  The treants provide a decent passive healing boost, though you have no control over who they heal or when.
Tier 5 (Level 75)
Talent Name Description Possible Uses
Disorienting Roar Invokes the spirit of Ursol to roar, disorienting all enemies within 10 yards for 3 sec.  Any damage caused will remove the effect.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. 3 seconds is a very brief disorient, but might be enough to give a tank a chance to pick up some adds that have swarmed you.
Ursol’s Vortex Conjures a vortex of wind at the destination location that reduces the movement speed of all enemies within 8 yards by 50%.The first time an enemy attempts to leave the vortex, winds will pull that enemy back to its center.Lasts 10 sec.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. Ursol’s Vortex would be great for fights that require a lot of add management and have adds that need to be DPDed down at about the same time.  This talent would have been great for fights like Maloriak, Beth’tilac, and for black oozes on Yor’sahj.
Mighty Bash Invokes the spirit of Ursoc to stun the target for 5 sec.  Useable in all shapeshift forms. Having an extra interrupt (for trash mobs, as bosses will likely be immune to this) is always helpful.  Bash would also be helpful for stunning an add long enough for the tank to get agro on it.
Tier 6 (Level 90)
Talent Name Description Possible Uses
Heart of the Wild Increases Stamina, Agility, and Intellect by 6% at all times.  When activated, dramatically improves the Druid’s ability to perform roles outside of their normal specialization for 45 sec. Essentially, Heart of the Wild makes it possible for you to DPS as a cat or moonkin, or to tank in a pinch.  You wouldn’t be as good at these roles as someone actually speced for them, but you could help out in an emergency.  The passive 6% Intellect is also very good for us.
Dream of Cenarius Wrath, Starfire, Starsurge, and melee abilities increase healing done by your next healing spell by 30%. Tranquility is not affected.Nourish, Healing Touch, and Regrowth increase the damage done by your next 2 Moonfire or Sunfire casts by 65% or by your next 2 melee abilities by 25%.

Each of these bonuses lasts 30 sec.

Dream of Cenarius is the talent to take if you enjoy DPSing a bit as you heal.  If you want to throw a Wrath at the boss every 30 seconds, you’ll be rewarded with a 30% more effective healing spell after the cast.
Nature’s Vigil Increases all damage and healing done by 20% for 30 sec.  While active, all single-target healing spells also damage a nearby enemy target for 25% of the healing done, and all single-target damage spells and abilities also heal a nearby friendly target for 25% of the damage done. A great all-around throughput cooldown with a fun damage component to it.  Notice that the damage only works with single-target healing spells, so don’t expect to pop Tranquility and suddenly be at the top of the damage meters.  This used in combination with Incarnation could make for some extremely powerful burst healing.
