Shared Topic: What are your guild’s traditions?

October 17, 2011

This week, Blog Azeroth’s Shared Topic comes to us from … well, from me!  I asked my fellow bloggers:

“Every guild has a certain personality, style, and even traditions all of its own. Do you have certain abilities that you always need to use on a boss kill screenshot? Or perhaps your guild holds an annual holiday party? What special traditions does your guild have?”

My guild has a handful of traditions, most of which involve standing in plenty of fire and failing to down bosses until our “official last try of the night.”  My favorite guild tradition, though, is something a little different.

We have a lot of alts in my guild, and it’s a big guild to begin with.  So practically once an hour we see someone getting a level up achievement in our guild chat announcements.  One of our guild’s officers (who happens to also be an awesome boomkin/resto druid!) came up with a hilarious way to congratulate people:

The Grats Macro. I mean .. of course it's not a macro.

It’s kind of difficult to describe how funny this is when it happens in real time.  Say someone dings 80.  That first wall of text congratulating them pops up within a second or two.  Then, one or all of us point out that it’s obviously a macro, and we immediately get the second paragraph as a response.

There’s a slightly different paragraph that pops up when a character hits max level, and that paragraph somehow always manages to have the same spelling mistakes in it.  But don’t you dare assume that’s because it’s a macro!  We’re way too personable for that.

Hahah this is amazing! One of my ally alts is in a guild filled with people who use addons to auto generate “Hello Name!” and “Grats on level 58” and what have you, which has always creeped me out. This macro, however, is completely perfect!

LOL .. one of our newer guild members had a very similar add on. We were all pretty weirded out by the whole thing, especially on the first day because in order to build a database it seemed to say something to basically every person who spoke in guild chat. Then the rest of the guild started imitating the add on … mass chaos ensued … eventually the add on got turned off. 😛
